My favorite casa particular in Cuba is in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana at Private Rooms Mylena y Otto. Unlike most casa particulars, Otto and Mylena live off-site and rent their former residence to visitors.
Each morning, Otto and Yoly, the housekeeper, prepared a sumptuous breakfast, served on the wrap-around balcony. We took advantage of the occasion to learn more about Cuba and obtain recommendations of things to do and places to visit. Peppering Otto with a barrage of questions was always met with helpfulness and grace. The apartment was spotless, thanks to Yoly who meticulously cleaned it each day.
We loved the Vedado neighborhood with its tree-lined streets, magnificent old mansions, and plenty of services within walking distance. With the help of a pamphlet prepared by Otto and Mylena, we discovered lots of nearby restaurants offering a wide selection of Cuban dishes. Transportation into Old Havana was a few blocks away. After several hours experiencing the hectic atmosphere of Central Havana and Old Havana, we looked forward to returning to the tranquility of Vedado and our casa particular.

Host Yamilé and her mother-in-law Milagros offer two guest rooms located in a separate building at the back of their property. Both rooms have two double beds and a private bath. There’s a huge deck with the typical Cuban rocking chairs in front looking out over the breathtaking Mogotes – this has to be one of the most amazing views of your entire trip! Waking up and eating breakfast with this view is a great way to start the day!
The rooms are spotless, large (with enough room to put your luggage and entertain your kids!), and come with a mini-fridge (beer and water are available). There’s a large garden, chickens with little ones marching around and you can watch the farmers plowing the land with their oxen. Yamilé is super sweet and will help you with anything – doing your laundry, arranging a trip to Cayo Jutías, or finding a taxi to bring you to a remote location. A room for up to 4 guests will cost you $26 a night. The casa receives a 5-start rating on AirBnB and we can only confirm its awesomeness!
Casa Damaris y Danis
Located in Pinar del Rio, the quiet neighborhood in which the casa is found is only four minutes away from the centre of charming Viñales. For a meager price of only $11 per night (inclusive of service charges), Casa Damaris y Danis can accommodate up to four guests with two double beds. Despite being in the more affordable range, the house boasts amenities including a kitchen, private entrance, and smart lock, among others. That said, no smoke alarm, heating, or security cameras are on the property (although it’s given that the area is safe).

The house has a capacity of seven guests and is only five minutes away from the beach, but based on our personal experience in Casa Ana / Casa Gleybis, the real x-factor is Ana and Giraldo’s unparalleled hospitality!
To prove a point, even though the lifestyle and travel in Cuba aren’t always that easy with its frequently occurring shortages and lack of essentials, Ana and Giraldo would always go out of their way to compensate for it and ensure that our stay would be fantastic. Casa Alexis y Dignora

When traveling around Cuba it can be difficult to choose from all the amazing casa particulars on offer. When in Varadero be sure to check out Teresa and Bartolo’s house located just a few footsteps from the bus station.
This home away from home will offer you a comfortable stay with a family who aims to take care of all your needs. The couple met me at the bus station and while I walked across the road with them, they told me about things to do in the local area.
As well as having air conditioning and private bathrooms, the property has a large outside yard where you can sit in the morning sun or a more private veranda area attached to the room from where you can sit with some drinks in the early evening. Bartolo has a goat which he would milk every morning and he would insist on how healthy the milk is and how the family uses it to prepare breakfast dishes in the morning.
Generally, Cuba is safe and when traveling from Havana to Varadero during the night, remember to keep your belongings with you at all times. Varadero is more touristy than other places on the island so if you are backpacking or traveling on a budget, be sure to carry some provisions as it can be difficult to find some of the cheaper eatery and street food that you can find in Havana.

Casa Bella Mar is situated near the go-to areas such as the international financial bank, bus station, and mini market. On top of that, tourist attractions such as the beach, the Salsa Suárez, and the Don Alex restaurant and bar are also nearby, making the casa a strategically sound and convenient location to stay at for visitors! The space is within a quiet area, and two terraces are accessible (one shared, one private). There are two bedrooms available with a double bed and private bath each with a capacity of two guests per room. Most amenities are available except for the kitchen, a washer, and heating. Security cameras and building staff are active 24/7.
Casa Bella Mar is rated 4.96 by 72 reviews in AirBnB. Erick and Ely, the hosts, are recognized as a friendly, helpful, and welcoming family who can understand English quite well. abuela Dalia House
This modernistic casa sits right in the center of Santa Marta and is surrounded by bars and restaurants, so you better make sure to not miss out on the nightlife! Abuela Dalia House is only a ten-minute walk from the Varadero beach and provides two beds with a max occupancy of three guests. Amenities include a kitchen, air conditioning, and a courtyard view, but WiFi, security cameras, and a washer are unavailable. That said, a WiFi spot and an ETECSA shop to buy more cards are both near the area, so the experience is not that hassling. Carlos and his mother, Dalia (the hosts), live right next door and are very hospitable, and Carlos is quite easy to communicate with in English. They prepare excellent breakfast options for $5, which comes in copious servings.
If you don’t have a vehicle, the Granny Dalia House is a bit far from Varadero, but you can always rent one to minimize travel time. The accommodation is a bit small as reviewed by some but is clean and nicely decorated. 175 reviews rated the casa 4.90, which only costs an affordable $24 per night.
